Hippo App is provided and controlled by Hippo Labs Inc. (“Hippo Labs”, “we” or “us”).
We take your privacy seriously. Please read carefully the following Privacy Policy to learn more about the ways your information will be collected, used, and shared. Accessing or using any part of our App, Website, and Services (the “Platform”) indicates that you have read and accepted the policies outlined in this Privacy Policy. Said Platform presently includes, but is not limited to the Hippo app ("the App") and the Hippo website www.joinhippo.com ("the Website").
1. Basic account information
If you choose to create an account, you must provide us with some personal data so that we can provide our services to you. This includes, but is not limited to a display name, a username, a password, and an email address or phone number. Your display name and username are always public. We also collect your profile information such as your profile image, your location, and your bio if provided.
If you choose to signup using a social network account we will collect basic account information from the third party, such as display name, username, email address, and profile image. We will not collect your password and recovery information, nor will we collect your activity information from a third party.
If you choose to connect with other users through your contacts list or your social network contacts we will access said lists to find existing users of the Platform and match them against existing users of our Platform. We will not store your contacts.
The content you generate, such as products, deals, collections, comments, likes, followings will be collected as well.
2. Public information
Most activity on the Platform is public by default, including your profile information, your content, likes, comments, followers, and following. Your direct messages to other users and correspondence with us will never be public. You are responsible for the content you generate and share on the Platform.
If you choose to limit the visibility of your profile on the Platform, your display name and username will still be visible to other users and they will still be able to find you on the Platform. However, other profile information and your content will be set to private and only the users you approve will be able to access it.
3. Your usage
We collect information about how you use our Platform, such as the content you view or engage with, the features you use, the account you interact with, the time, frequency, and duration of your activities. We keep track of how you interact with links on our Platform. This includes links in emails we send you and links that appear on the Platform.
We collect information about the device you use to access the Platform, such as the device operating system, your location, and IP address. This information is used to customize the experience while you are using the Platform.
We use cookies and similar technologies to automatically collect additional Platform usage information and to improve the Platform and provide you with targeted advertising on the Platform.
4. Direct messages
We collect the information you provide in the context of sending and receiving direct messages, such as when the message has been sent, received, and/or read and the accounts participating in the conversation. Direct messages are only visible to the accounts participating in the conversation and we are not responsible for how the participants will use said messages.
5. Payment information
We will collect payment information where required for the purpose of payment, receiving cashback, and rewards. We will not collect your bank account information, or credit card information. This information is handled by third-party service providers and we are not responsible for the security of said information.
We use your information to provide and support the Platform and to allow you to use its functionalities. We may use your information to show you suggestions and customize ads displayed to you while using the Platform.

Service providers
We engage service providers to help us operate our services and to help us understand the use of our services, such as Google Analytics.
We may share your private personal data with such service providers subject to obligations consistent with this Privacy Policy and any other appropriate confidentiality and security measures, and on the condition that the third parties use your private personal data only on our behalf and according to our instructions (service providers may use other non-personal data for their benefit). We share your payment information with payment services providers to process payments; prevent, detect, and investigate fraud or other prohibited activities; facilitate dispute resolution such as chargebacks or refunds; and for other purposes associated with the acceptance of credit and debit cards.
Law, Harm, and the Public Interest
We may preserve, use, share, or disclose your data or other safety data if we believe that it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; to protect the safety of any person; to protect the safety or integrity of our platform, including to help prevent spam, abuse, or malicious actors on our services, or to explain why we have removed content or accounts from our services; to address fraud, security, or technical issues; or to protect our rights or property or the rights or property of those who use our services.
We reserve the right to modify this Policy at any time and without prior notice, effective immediately upon publishing the modified Policy in the App and on the Website. By continuing to access or use the App, Website, and Services after the changes become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Privacy Policy.
